Governance

DeafVision is a registered charity and is governed by a Board of Trustees who are legally responsible for making sure that we do what we are set up to do and that the money we receive is spent efficiently and for the right purposes. The Board of Trustees; chaired by Norma Wilkinson, are all volunteers from different backgrounds and are invaluable to the running of DeafVision.  Many are themselves Deaf, deaf, deafened or hard of hearing and have a valuable knowledge of the problems faced by deaf people.  The Board meets bi-monthly, receiving reports on our work; examining financial statements; making recommendations on how we might improve; and generally providing the checks and balances to ensure that work carried out meets our aims and objectives.

The day to day work of DeafVision is delegated to professional staff, and we have a Management Team led by our Chief Executive, Peter Shaw.  The management team meets monthly to review progress against our targets and take the necessary action to ensure that we are working effectively.

Financial management is overseen by a Finance Sub-Committee, who set stringent financial controls to ensure long term financial viability.  To run our services, DeafVision is reliant on contracts with Cumbria County Council, together with money from funders such as The Big Lottery and Children in Need.  We are also extremely grateful to the many people who kindly provide valuable legacies and donations each year.

If you would like to become involved in the work of DeafVision and feel you can contribute, please contact us at any time.
