Did you know....
...that world wide more than 250,000,000 are hearing impaired?
....that hearing impairment leads into social isolation?
...that in Botswana, more than 20,000 people have a serious hearing problem and out of these at least 10,000 are children?
...that more than 500 children in Botswana cannot hear anything?
...that there are two schools for these children in Botswana?
...that the first school for the deaf was founded in 1775 in Paris?
...that the main causes for deafness in Botswana could be prevented?
...that there is a great deal we all have to learn about the deaf and from the deaf?

“Nothing for the deaf people without them” Our dream is to have deaf leaders, to take over from Botswana Society for the Deaf to run and administer their projects, and also to assist their counterparts whenever the need arise. The hearing community should only empower not to be always at forefront when the deaf are the ones to be always seen in front. Time has come to realize that the deaf people have potentials and capabilities, what they need is education, training and guidance. It is not easy because of language barrier but if we can manage to break up this barrier the deaf will excel like in other countries. We encourage the community to learn sign language for ease of communication with the deaf community.
Lastly we would like to thank all those who made efforts to learn the language of the deaf (Sign Language)
